Glory for Pouillie in Mira: Renttu Secures One-Two Finish as Cassuto Earns Dubious Penalty Record

Intro / Setting the scene

Welcome to Mira, a 4.158 km ribbon of asphalt that demands respect, precision, and a car that doesn't chew through its tyres like a starving dog. We are at Round 6 of Season 47, and the championship picture is starting to look like a one-team parade. Renttu Racing arrives with a massive 166 points in the Constructors' Championship, a staggering 84 points clear of SGA Racing. Evelien Pouillie leads the Drivers' standings with 85 points, 10 clear of Edmund Potts, and 26 ahead of Nicholai Bech Napizia.

But before we even talk about the racing, we must address the elephant in the room. Fenninger Racing, a team with 11 titles and a rich history in this game, is completely absent from the grid this weekend. No cars, no mechanics, just empty garages and a lot of questions. It's a sad sight for a championship that prides itself on fierce competition. We can only hope that the management sorts out whatever is going on behind the scenes, and that Fenninger will rise from the ashes before the season ends. We need them back.

As for the weather, Mira greets us with clear skies and a track temperature that promises to make the soft tyres melt faster than ice cream in the sun. Let's see who can manage the degradation best today.

Lights out

The starting grid was set by a frantic qualifying session. Bilal Hallikäär (Renttu Racing) took a dominant pole position with an 88.863, edging out his teammate Evelien Pouillie (Renttu Racing) by a tenth. Nicholai Bech Napizia (Silver Cosmos) lined up third, while Comin Farahvash Fashandi (Paolonio Racing) started a solid fourth.

But the biggest qualifying heartbreak belonged to Ross Walrond (Handbrake RD). The New Zealander had the raw speed to start on the front row. His first two sectors (22.076s and 30.397s) were virtually identical to pole-sitter Hallikäär's. However, a massive mistake in sector 3 saw him lose over a second, dropping him to P11. A golden opportunity thrown away.

When the lights went out, Hallikäär (Renttu Racing) got a clean start, but the action behind him was instant and brutal. Edmund Potts (SGA Racing) was on a mission, slicing his way from seventh to fourth by the end of the first lap. Ross Walrond (Handbrake RD) was even more impressive, launching from eleventh to sixth, clearly on a mission to make amends for his qualifying error. But the real mover was new boy Vladimir Babić (Arun Roughneck Racing Team), who took his car from eighteenth all the way up to thirteenth in just one lap. The Croatian is definitely making a statement.

The race, in phases

Phase 1 (Laps 2-10)

Hallikäär (Renttu Racing) controlled the pace at the front, but Pouillie (Renttu Racing) kept him honest, staying within a second.

The first major casualty of the race happened in the pits. Farahvash Fashandi (Paolonio Racing) dived in on lap 8, but his stop was an absolute catastrophe. The crew struggled with a wheel, and he was stationary for a gut-wrenching 15.3 seconds. The Iranian driver's race was effectively ruined before it had even reached its first quarter.

Bilal Hallikäär (Renttu Racing) also pitted on lap 8, looking to execute the undercut on his teammate. He rejoined on mediums, but the move didn't work out quite as planned.

Phase 2 (Laps 11-22)

As the pit stops cycled through, Evelien Pouillie (Renttu Racing) found himself in clear air and promptly bolted. The Belgian driver showed exactly why he is the championship leader, pumping in consistent laps while the rest of the field battled behind him.

But the midfield was a warzone. Ross Walrond (Handbrake RD) had a massive moment on lap 12, running off track and losing a second. He wasn't the only one. Comin Farahvash Fashandi (Paolonio Racing) had a spin on lap 14, losing another second in his already disastrous race.

The biggest clown of the first half of the race, however, was Glenn Cassuto (JP Suave Racing). The American spun on lap 15, losing four seconds, and then repeated the trick on lap 17, losing another second. He wasn't done there, spinning again on lap 22 and losing another second. It was driving that would make a driving instructor weep.

Phase 3 (Laps 23-37)

The middle stint saw the second round of pit stops. Pouillie (Renttu Racing) pitted on lap 22, switching to a fresh set and maintaining his lead comfortably.

Ross Walrond (Handbrake RD) encountered trouble in the pits on lap 26, with a wheel causing chaos for the mechanics, but he managed to rejoin without losing too much ground.

The stewards were also getting busy. Glenn Cassuto (JP Suave Racing) was hit with a five-second penalty on lap 29 for ignoring blue flags. The American was clearly not having a good day.

But then, disaster struck for the race leader's teammate. Hallikäär (Renttu Racing), who was running in a strong second, dived into the pits on lap 30. The crew botched the stop, struggling to fit a wheel. He was stationary for a massive 14.4 seconds. The sheer frustration on the pit wall was palpable. What could have been an easy one-two was suddenly turning into a fight for damage limitation for the Estonian.

Elsewhere, the mechanical gremlins claimed their first victim. Gustav-Adolf Adam (EquipeFlandre) pulled over on lap 32 with a gearbox failure. A bitter end to his weekend. Ville-Veikko Sinivuori (PYKE) also had a wobble on lap 35, spinning and losing two seconds.

Phase 4 (Laps 38-50)

By this stage, Pouillie (Renttu Racing) was in a league of his own. The gap to the cars behind was oscillating around the 15 to 20-second mark. The battle was truly for the remaining podium positions.

Ross Lane (Arun Roughneck Racing Team) had an absolute nightmare in this phase. A small spin on lap 38 cost him a second, but his excursion on lap 45 was far worse. He went off into the grass and gravel, losing a massive seven seconds. It was a painful watch for the New Zealander.

Incredibly, on lap 45, Cassuto (JP Suave Racing) did the exact same thing again, ignoring blue flags and earning another five-second penalty. At this point, he was single-handedly keeping the stewards in a job.

Phase 5 (Laps 51-62)

The final stint was a frantic dash to the flag, with drivers throwing caution to the wind and making mistakes left, right, and center.

Vladimir Babić (Arun Roughneck Racing Team) spun on lap 51, losing two seconds. Cassuto (JP Suave Racing) added another spin to his collection on lap 52, losing two seconds. On lap 53, both Sriram Joshi (ElMayoGPTeam) and Josef Høier (Silver Cosmos) had separate spins, each losing a second. Benito Adam Negrete (Andrea Moda Formula) spun on lap 54, losing two seconds.

Even the leader wasn't immune. Evelien Pouillie (Renttu Racing) had a minor moment on lap 57, losing a second, but he had plenty of margin.

The final spin of the day went to Martti Voldek (EquipeFlandre) on lap 58, who lost a whopping six seconds after an off-track excursion.

But nobody could touch Pouillie. He crossed the line to take a dominant victory, with a battered but resilient Hallikäär bringing the second Renttu home in second place.

Focus on the teams

Renttu Racing: Another masterclass from the Finnish squad. Pouillie was untouchable, and Hallikäär's second place was a brilliant recovery from a 14-second pit stop disaster. They are running away with both championships.

SGA Racing: A solid but unspectacular race. Potts finished sixth, while Van Lancker had a quiet race to finish nineteenth after his qualifying struggles.

Silver Cosmos: Napizia secured a brilliant podium in third, showing great consistency. Høier brought home a point in ninth, making it a successful weekend for the British team.

Handbrake RD: Walrond was the driver of the day, charging from eleventh to fourth. Sayre had a quieter race but still scored a point in tenth. A great team performance.

Andrea Moda Formula: A good haul of points for Viirok in fifth. Negrete had a difficult race with a spin but brought the car home in thirteenth.

Paolonio Racing: A weekend to forget. Fashandi's 15-second pit stop ruined his race, though he salvaged eighth. Compton struggled for pace and finished twelfth.

Arun Roughneck Racing Team: Lane fought hard despite a 7-second spin to finish seventh. New signing Babić showed flashes of speed but made a rookie mistake with a spin, finishing sixteenth. The potential is there.

ElMayoGPTeam: A tough outing. Joshi spun but finished eleventh, just outside the points. Frantsi was anonymous in seventeenth.

PYKE: A poor weekend. Sinivuori spun and finished fifteenth, while Rodrígues de Morais was fourteenth. They need to find pace quickly.

EquipeFlandre: A miserable race. Adam retired with a gearbox failure, and Voldek spun late on to finish eighteenth. Zero points.

JP Suave Racing: A race to forget for Cassuto, who spun four times and earned two penalties for ignoring blue flags. Babály finished twentieth.

Fenninger Racing: Absent. We hope to see them back on the grid soon.

Race pace analysis

Evelien Pouillie's (Renttu Racing) pace was relentless. An average lap of 1:31.122 over a 62-lap race is the hallmark of a champion. He didn't have the absolute fastest lap (that belonged to his teammate), but his consistency was what won him the race.

Bilal Hallikäär (Renttu Racing) showed exactly what could have been. His best lap of 1:29.459 was the fastest of the race, and his average pace of 1:30.820 was actually faster than Pouillie's. The 14-second pit stop is the only reason he isn't standing on the top step of the podium.

Nicholai Bech Napizia (Silver Cosmos) was the best of the rest, with an average pace of 1:31.078. He couldn't match the Renttu cars, but he was comfortably clear of Walrond.

Top 3 and flop 3

Pos Driver Team Motivation
T1 E. Pouillie Renttu Racing Flawless victory. Masterclass in tyre management.
T2 R. Walrond Handbrake RD From P11 to P4. Drove the wheels off the car.
T3 N. Napizia Silver Cosmos Maximized his pace, solid podium in a tough race.
Pos Driver Team Motivation
F1 G. Cassuto JP Suave Racing Three spins, two penalties. A masterclass in chaos.
F2 B. Hallikäär Renttu Racing Pit crew threw away his race. Unacceptable.
F3 C. Farahvash F. Paolonio Racing 15-second pit stop ruined a potential top-5 finish.

Post race interviews

E. Pouillie (Renttu Racing)
"The car was an absolute rocket today. We knew the softs would be tricky, but the strategy was perfect. When I saw Bilal struggling in the pits, I just put my head down and brought it home. The championship is looking good, but we take it one race at a time."

R. Walrond (Handbrake RD)
"Starting P11, I knew I had to be aggressive. The spin on lap 12 gave me a scare, but the car was fantastic on the mediums. To finish P4 is a great result. The team did a brilliant job with the strategy."

N. Napizia (Silver Cosmos)
"Solid points today. We didn't have the pure pace of the Renttu cars, but we maximized everything we had. The podium is a great reward for the whole team."

G. Cassuto (JP Suave Racing)
"I don't even know what to say. The car was sliding everywhere, the blue flags were confusing. It was just one of those weekends where nothing goes right. I just want to forget this race."

B. Hallikäär (Renttu Racing)
"We lost the win in the pits today. It's incredibly frustrating because the pace was definitely there. The team has apologized, but it doesn't give me back the 25 points. We will bounce back."

C. Farahvash Fashandi (Paolonio Racing)
"We had the strategy to fight for the podium, but the wheel nut issue cost us 15 seconds. In this championship, you cannot afford those mistakes. It's a tough pill to swallow."

Closing

Mira was a race of what-ifs. What if Hallikäär's pit crew hadn't fumbled? What if Fashandi's wheel nut had cooperated? What if Fenninger Racing had been on the grid? But in motorsport, only the results are written in the history books. Renttu Racing is marching towards another double championship, and the rest of the field is left scratching their heads.

The championship moves on to Qinglong Circuit next week. It's a track that rewards precision and punishes mistakes. If Mira is anything to go by, we are in for a treat. Will Renttu continue their dominance, or will SGA and Silver Cosmos find a way to stop the bleeding?

Hi Frank, forum rich text editor: formatted posts show their HTML tags as plain text.

Observations

  1. Matteo uses only the toolbar buttons (bold, italic, underline, colour, lists, blockquote). The editor produces correct HTML, but the post shows the tags as text.
  2. Editing an existing post without changing anything and saving: all tags become visible text. Some of his posts are escaped several times over (<p>), so every edit seems to escape again.
  3. My test on beta works: I opened a rendered HTML page, copied the visible text and pasted it into a new post. Headings, bold and umlauts render correctly. Pasting HTML source shows tags as text, which is correct.

Repro (edit bug)

  1. Create a new post with bold text and a list. It renders fine.
  2. Open Edit, change nothing, save.
  3. Expected: unchanged. Actual: tags shown as text. Every further edit adds another layer of escaping (to be confirmed).

Open question

Why does it work for me and not for Matteo? Either beta vs live, or role-based (admin posts render, normal users get escaped), or old posts are handled differently. I'll post the same toolbar test on live to narrow it down.

How it should work

  • Save: store the editor's HTML as is, no escaping on save.
  • Display: output the HTML through an allowlist sanitizer (HTMLPurifier / DOMPurify), allowing only what the toolbar produces: p, br, strong, em, u, s, span[style=color], ul, ol, li, blockquote (plus h2-h4 / table if wanted). Strip script, on* attributes, javascript: links. That covers XSS without breaking the formatting.
  • Edit: load the stored HTML through the editor API (setContent/setHTML), not as text in a textarea. Saving without changes must give byte-identical content. Good regression test.
  • Paste: rendered content becomes sanitized formatting; plain text stays plain text.
  • Old posts: the ones that are already escaped need a one-off migration (unescape as many times as they were escaped), or the authors repost.

Thanks!
